Black Bird

The painted bird is back. I found the first edition of Jerzy Kosinski's first novel, "Painted Bird", on the cover there is a fragment of Hieronimus Bosh painting, which was selected by Kosinski. Years ago when he visited Krakow I have listened him to speak about his reasons to select this particular painting, then I painted my own version, the painting is still in Krakow. Now, years later the idea is back in a different technique. I am planning to come back to Krakow with a series of black and white drawings to show at the Art Gallery Miodowa. Here is my travel plan, land in Amsterdam to visit Van Gogh's museum, stop over in Vienna to revisit Bosch's Last Judgement, then to Krakow. I will post more drawings, will wait for your comments.

Writing

"I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say other way - things I had no words for" - Georgia O'Keefe

"Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his picture" - Henry Ward Beecher

"Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen: - Leonardo Da Vinci

What else can you add... a black and white drawing will do...

Summer makes me lazy, California sun burns down the will to paint, and now with the new pool in my backyard so many excuses to get away from studio time, to get back on track I am looking through my older photos and here I found one which is pretty nice, my daughter looking at me painting from the last year exhibit.
I'll be honest my creative energy comes and goes, I always admire artists who work steadily no matter what...I am lazy, that's it, I said it...now with the new school year beginning I am glad to be back in the classroom with my students, they will give me necessary energy to create, so look out for my new works...SOON!

Artistic horses

I was always fascinated by the power of the horse, it's grace in movement, connection to man throughout the human history, and artistic interpretation of that connection in art. Here is my ceramic sculpture, a 3-D illustration of a another symbolic connection between the man and a horse, heroes of the famous epic work...
do you need more clues to guess the name of the rider and his horse?

Below is an acrylic on canvas, it is a large piece which I painted last summer immersing myself in the culture of prehistoric times. I tried to use the same pigments as the cave artists as well as my hands and fingers to paint it.
Interesting is to think on the relations between a man and a horse, in the dawn of human story horse was a wild animal hunted for food and then eventually it became domesticated, helping the man in his labors, enabling him to discover and conquer.

Ecce Equus!

Black and White Flower

I am traveling. That gives me time for thinking, sketching. Posting a new blog is always hard, especially when I have to write something. Image making is much easier, writing is your thing.
So here is my new drawing, what do you see? what can you write about it?

The Garden of Forbidden Fruits

We were once in the Garden, life was easy and colorful,
we were resting.
We were dreaming.
It is a landscape of people, painted with warm and cool feelings.
What do you feel?

Remember September 11

I wanted to check how the video will work on this site, so I posted a video project which was created with a group of my students as an artisitc commentary to the anniversary of the tragic events of September 11.

Love and Hate

Many responses later, I am encouraged to keep it up.
Here is my new post with my new drawing. There were confusions in some of the correspondences, some of you were asking, who was the author of the drawings...
all the drawings posted on this site are mine, I will try to make a new one for each posting.
I gather my energy to publish a book of drawings, sort of graphic novel sometime later this year.
This blog could give me a new idea, which way to go, to be more of a storyteller, or artisitc;
graphic or poetic, black and white or color...
your comments give me an ongoing inspiration, and like in my art there are no rules and no boundaries to the freedom of expression
so here it is, another pen and ink drawing, titled "Love and Hate",
the rest is up to the viewer...

Artistic beginning

Everybody's blogging...why not me...
My friend M.K., an amazing writer, is blogging once a week... with a new book being published, his son graduating from Berkeley, and millions of things to do, he is still finding time to blog every Monday. I am not a writer, so my writing will be minimal, but I am making a promise to myself and a small group of my dear frineds that I will post an artwork with a twist, a story to guess, imagine, discover...I will give it a title and a few hints on what was on my mind when I was making it, and I will look forward to your comments and your interpretations.
So here it is, my first drawing of the week, pen and ink in the footsteps of old masters, especially this one, from the little town of Drohobycz, Bruno Schulz...
Dimensions are 9"X12" and the title is "In Love with the Ballerina"...
Tell me the story...
