Artistic beginning

Everybody's blogging...why not me...
My friend M.K., an amazing writer, is blogging once a week... with a new book being published, his son graduating from Berkeley, and millions of things to do, he is still finding time to blog every Monday. I am not a writer, so my writing will be minimal, but I am making a promise to myself and a small group of my dear frineds that I will post an artwork with a twist, a story to guess, imagine, discover...I will give it a title and a few hints on what was on my mind when I was making it, and I will look forward to your comments and your interpretations.
So here it is, my first drawing of the week, pen and ink in the footsteps of old masters, especially this one, from the little town of Drohobycz, Bruno Schulz...
Dimensions are 9"X12" and the title is "In Love with the Ballerina"...
Tell me the story...

  1. Good luck with this, Pavel. I resisted blogging for a long time. When my publicist asked me to start creating an internet presence, I had no idea what I would blog about. Then I came to realize that I had been saving up non-fiction ideas for many years. They were just waiting to come out... I do think that the once-a-week pace is a bit much... At some point, I'll have to slow down.

  3. Tired of something she is not,
    she tries to break away
but even the pain and longing,
    of never fitting in.
    always sticking to the mirror,
    the bar,
    and her swollen feet.
    she wants freedom.
she wants to live behind the demands of a teacher,
pleasing only those who want nothing best for her.
as the red ballon drifts away,
she tries to reclaim its freedom,
    by letting it go: pop!
forever in her eyes one thing has been let go,
maybe finally she will hang her dancing shoes,
and really be a jazz feign!

  4. What a great poem to go with the art! Wow!

Pavel, I am so glad to see you blogging. It's truly a great outlet. I, too, started a blog a little while ago more to store my thoughts and ideas on education than anything else. Check it out when you have time: educatingmariane.wordpress.com

I'll have to start posting some of the art stuff there, too. You've inspired me! :) This is really great and I'm looking forward to your posts!

    Mariane
