Those of us who are children of Holocaust Survivors, might view themselves as naked, vulnerable and often haunted by their parent's horrific past. This image certainly speaks to me in in this fashion. As Aaron Haas wrote in his book, 'In the Shadow of the Holocaust', "The most important event in my life happened before I was born."
Morris, insightful comment, the past is always with us, even though we have not experienced it, it is like an ongoing nightmare, interesting that you have found it in this painting, some people found this piece playful and joyful, not all the art dealing with the dark past have to be depressing visually.
Pavel, this is beautiful. So many ways to interpret. The man holding the head seems to be exhalting humanity almost religiously. The masculine-looking faces are so similar that the two women really stand out as original and unique. Probably my feminist interpretation, but there is both strength and modesty in the women. Very cool. Would love this one for my office, it's so interesting!!
I just realized that I posted this picture on June 11, which is my birthday!

ReplyDeleteThese three,
ReplyDeletestand out,
fighting the norm,
never backing down.
Singled out,
not knowing why,
understanding that,
there is a reason.
Everything will be revealed under the tuscon sun.
Till then,
they wait.
They create in order to recreate.
